FRRR – Visy Tumut Region Recovery Fund
OverviewThis program aims to support local not-for-profit organisations and community groups which are delivering locally-led projects and activities that endeavour to support people in the Snowy Valleys Council region with their recovery as a result of the 2019-20 bushfires. It is a partnership between Pratt Foundation and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR).
Through the provision of grants, this program aims to address a range of needs, including but not limited to:
- Mental health and wellbeing.
- Environmental and wildlife recovery and rehabilitation.
- Strengthening social connectedness and reducing social isolation.
- Culturally appropriate activities and resources for impacted communities.
- Community infrastructure and equipment that strengthens volunteer community groups and their activities.
- Community-based therapeutic programs and activities such as arts, theatre, gardening, community dinners, or informal mentoring and peer support groups, which engage vulnerable and at-risk members of the community.
There are no set minimum and maximum funding limits. An organisation is eligible to submit one application per grant round.
A total funding pool of $1 million is available in 2019-20.
The 2020 closing dates are:
- Round 1: 28 February
- Round 2: 27 March
- Round 3: 30 June
Eligible applicants must be:
- Not-for-profit community-based organisations in the Snowy Valleys Council region that were impacted by the 2019-20 bushfires.
- Organisations with an ABN or Incorporation Certificate.
- Organisations with and without DGR endorsement.
Eligible activities must be clearly focussed on supporting the recovery from the 2019-20 bushfires. As a general guide projects should deliver wide community benefit and can contribute to activities including:
- Building community resilience
- Developing organisational resilience and capacity
- Enhancing environmental sustainability
- Fostering cultural vibrancy
- Lifelong education and training
- Economic strength
- Improving community health and social wellbeing

The following are ineligible for funding:
- Individuals, private or commercial businesses.
- Projects that support core business and areas of responsibility of Federal, State and local governments.
- Ongoing core organisational operational costs (e.g. rent, utilities, regular wages, loan repayments).
- The encouragement or advancement of sport, recreation and social activities are not considered charitable activities under Australian law. Applications from sporting organisations need to clearly demonstrate charitable outcomes and benefit to the wider community that are above and beyond the sporting activities of the club.
- Overseas travel and overseas projects.
- Prizes, gifts, trophies or awards.
- Projects that have already occurred or will occur before the grant is confirmed.
- Political lobbying.
- Religious or faith-based activities.
- Projects that are for private benefit or which are the core responsibility of government.
- Application is not for charitable purposes (i.e. is for private benefit or is the core responsibility of government).
- Application is for a project or activity that has already occurred/is occurring.
